Vesc XR

In early 2024, I bought a slightly modified Onewheel XR. The electronics were mostly stock, besides a (somewhat hazardous) aftermarket battery pack. It was fun, but the power was underwhelming. I also lost features after being forced to update, and shortly after found out about the community replacing their controllers with VESC based controllers for more power and ownership. This opened up a whole new world - I swapped the controller and kept the battery, then swapped the battery for more power and upgraded the controller to match… then the motor overheated so I swapped that… I’ve ended up replacing every component except for the bolts. I’ve rewired the stock motor, built custom harnesses, designed and fabricated my own parts, waterproofed the controller and battery boxes… and trusted my collarbones to all of that work.

Vesc Pint

I couldn’t help it. I saw a $100, broken pint online. The motor is worth at least that! The controller was blown, the power button had a metal nut that broke off and shorted the board. But I had my previous lower power VESC I’d replaced in my other board laying around… so it worked again! Underwhelmingly, on the stock battery. So a friend offered to build me a battery pack at parts cost… and I had a BMS laying around from my other board… and I found some unique prototype rails secondhand… and I ended up with another DIY’d board. Lower power than my other one, but a more fun, playful character. Also taught me how to dye nylon 3D prints. This is also the board featured on my landing page, when I took it to Opensauce as a convenient way to get to and from the venue.
